Finding the TV, Software, DS Game or Film

By putney66

What, can’t find that software or TV show? well its not that hard join a Newsgroup Provider. What’s that? They have an entire community of web users who upload their files to a Internet News Servers around the world and the content is held in storage for over 200 Days at super download speeds once you sign up.

Well my fave is Giganews.com they have provided a great service to me for over 4 years and its worth every penny in my humble opinion.

What’s the frustration – well setting the bloody newsreader up so that you can pull the files down, understanding the terminology and what the hell to do with the files once you’ve downloaded them!

What do you need to start

1. Sign up to a cheap newsgroup provider – I use Giganews

2. Download Grabit

3. Download Giganews Accelerator if you signed up with them

What next

Well here comes the pain, bear with me it difficult to express so screenshots should help here. Click on the Pictures below to expand the image.

What Tools do I Need?

Well, when you download a file from a newsgroup, the nice uploaders are usually quite helpful and provide RAR files and PAR  files, what the heck are they – well RAR is like zipped files and PAR is the repair file in case the uploaded RAR files got corrupted. There are .NZB and .SFV but we won’t worry about those yet. Get WINRAR and QuickPar – both free and will help you get cracking. Grabit does have a built-in extract and check facility, but I swear by having these 2 tools as backups, in case Grabit doesn’t do the business.

Q, Well where do you get the content then?

Good question, glad you asked. http://binsearch.info/ try typing in heroes as an example! Look for a big post something with par files and rar files. Tick the little box and go back up to the top of the page and hit Create NZB.

Q. Great, done that, what do I do with the NZB file?

Save it to your desktop, in case you need it again, suffer a power outage or want to download it later. Open it, which should then force Grabit to open and ask if you want to download it. Once the files download you should be able to browse to your download folder you specified earlier.

You lost yet? hang in there, you’ll soon be downloading that next best film, DS games or mp3 tune.

Signing off.
